The Educator Weekend Wrap: HSC overhauled, new Minister outlines vision & mental health workshops


This week’s top story: On Tuesday, the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) announced its biggest overhaul of the HSC in decades following four years of consultations with teachers and academics. The new syllabuses are part of the NSW Government’s Stronger HSC Standards reforms announced last year, and will see a new approach aimed at better preparing students for their future careers. In other news: In an interview with The Educator, new NSW Education Minister, Rob Stokes, shared his thoughts taking on the portfolio and outlined how intends to make a positive impact on NSW education. Finally: Principals Australia Institute (PAI) announced it is holding a 2-day training workshop starting on 7 March which will be rolled out across the country. The workshops will be aimed at improving mental health and first aid strategies for schools. The evidence-based training course is authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by PAI's accredited MHFA instructors. Read more here.
