Whether it’s a flood, a campus closure or a fire, parents need to know the crucial information that affects their child’s school - and they need to know about it quickly.
According to Matthew Rawbone, APAC regional sales director at Soprano Design, parents often receive a “constant and overwhelming” amount of information about their child’s education. Schools often rely on parents downloading specific apps, but with 94% of Australians opening a text message and 78% reading every SMS they receive, Rawbone says there has to be a better way of passing vital information to parents.
Soprano Design is actively involved in the education of Australia’s youth, and has been working to create better lines of communication across the country. Its aim is to pass on important information in a digestible, understandable and succinct way, and to allow seamless communication between families, classrooms and school leaders.
“Family members need and want to be informed of incidents and circumstances affecting the student campus,” Rawbone tells The Educator.
“We provide the tools for schools to inform, update and educate parents on everything they need to know, creating a healthy community of parent and child connection throughout their education.”
Soprano’s flagship product - Soprano Connect - allows school personnel to contact parents through a variety of channels including SMS, WhatsApp, email, and others. Rawbone says that while students have been provided with a choice of channels when learning, there has been little innovation in communication channels with parents so far.
“Having multiple connection touchpoints available to parents helps ensure that everyone is in the know via the channel that works best for them - not just those with a specific app,” he says.
“Keeping parents informed of their student’s school activities establishes an environment of trust, leading to a more well-rounded experience for teachers, parents and students.”
A number of schools across Australia now rely on Soprano Design’s platform to communicate critical information. Rawbone says the platform provides an “enormous opportunity” to create a parent, student and teacher relationship which is highly involved, and the regular contact creates opportunities to share a child’s day to day progress and activities.
“The options are limitless,” Rawbone says.
“Children benefit from consistent messaging and education whether at school or at home, because the lines of communication are clear and open, allowing a collaborative atmosphere for all involved. Soprano hopes to be part of this shift in communication.”
