Darren Lawson has been appointed as the new principal of Australian Christian College at Caboolture, succeeding the retiring Gary Underwood who held the position for 8 years.
Prior to his education career, Lawson represented Australia in Road Cycling at the Barcelona Olympics. He has over 24 years of experience in education serving the last 7 years as Principal at Heights College, Rockhampton.
"I look forward to getting to know the school community and continuing to build upon the great work which is already being done,” Lawson told The Educator.
“This will include overseeing the completion of the Secondary School Precinct, which is currently at council approval stage.”
Lawson said the new facility will provide the School with the opportunity to provide a greater diversity of subjects, leading to more potential post-school pathways for the students.
“Another area of initial focus will be on continuing to build upon the sound academic foundations through enhanced evidence-based teaching practice.”
David Fyfe, chairman of the school board, said the School Board is excited for what the future might bring under Darren’s leadership.
“He was selected, from a competitive field of excellent candidates, to lead the school community forward,” Fyfe said.
“Darren has a track record of lifting academic standards, growing student enrolments and fostering a caring Christian community.”
Lawson will officially commence in the role in January 2022.
