Matthew Anderson, Ormiston College

Teacher

Anderson is a versatile young man with dedication, passion, and drive for teaching.

Anderson leverages data and technology to bring fun and creativity into the classroom. This includes the use of Education Perfect and Quizlet online systems for developing students’ general literacy, spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills; virtual reality to enable students to practice their speeches before a “live audience;” and Oculus Goggles to immerse students in experiences, such as the Refugee Story and a tour through Anne Frank’s house. He also engages in the college media production, OCTV, to help students further their own on- and off-screen skills.

On a curriculum level, Anderson has helped develop the Year-11 English program under the new QCAA English General Senior Syllabus and has spearheaded the redesign of the Year-7 Media Arts curriculum, offering new perspectives to make learning fun and engaging.

As a part of the Year 7 teaching team, this hardworking guy is a source of reassurance and guidance for students, assisting them in building their courage and moral through the school’s “Making Connections,” Year 7 Camp, and SEP programs.

Anderson also actively participates in the college’s sports programme. He manages both girls hockey and touch football, serves as First XI cricket coach, and even runs coaching clinics for colleagues and coaches.
