St Rita's College, Clayfield, QLD

St Rita’s College has launched a Graduate Teacher Network in the online learning space, allowing graduate teachers to connect with and support other colleagues who are just finding their feet. The move aimed to close the networking gap created by COVID-19 restrictions cancelling professional learning meetings for beginning teachers. By enabling graduate teachers to reach out to colleagues in other schools, especially those who teach in the same fields and who are in a similar situation, the college aims to help them improve professionally, be informed and capable professionals, and discover successful technical skills being utilised by new career colleagues.

St. Rita’s also launched a Study Skills Program which helps students establish good learning habits from their early years of high school. Part of the process of helping students build crucial lifelong study skills is the implementation of a senior group study program, encouraging students to engage in wide reading practices, and the development of academic writing skills using the 6+1 Traits Writing model. Work is also being done to find out the most effective means of implementing consistent reading, note-making, and summarising strategies in Year 7.
