Knox Grammar School, Wahroonga, NSW
Knox Grammar Preparatory School’s new platform for deep, conceptual learning equips students with the skills to thrive in the modern world. Each year, students complete five Knoxigations inquiry units in five domains of learning: Stories of the World and its People, Interconnected Systems, Sustainable Solutions, Tinkering Towards Tomorrow, and Global Changemakers. Each unit utilises Load Reduction Instruction theory and is embedded with the use of technology. The school also uses an online adaptive assessment tool that gathers information about what students know, can do, and are ready to learn, to offer a personalised learning program in English and Mathematics.
The Knox Academy of Global Competencies, meanwhile, offers Year 9 and 10 students an innovative and dynamic new learning space where they can connect socially, be inspired, and become innovative thinkers. It features future workplace-style classrooms, “man-caves,” green spaces, LED lighting and signage, interactive screens, and open spaces for collaboration. Complementing this innovation space is the introduction of future-focused interdisciplinary courses, iSTEM, Engineering, and Entrepreneurial Ethics. Also enriching the students’ learning experience is the school’s innovative iHUB, which provides them the use of such technologies as VR igloo and Lenovo VR headsets, EV3 Lego robots, and a 3D printer.
