Emanuel School, Randwick, NSW
This year Emanuel School has continued to accelerate its focus on transdisciplinary learning that provides authentic learning opportunities and has lifelong relevance for students through its innovation programs.
The school’s MakerSpace program enables high school students to connect with the community and unleash their creativity and innovation through open-ended exploration of contemporary, real-world dilemmas through the lenses of engineering, software, science, art, and design. The Design for Action program empowers students to use technology and visual communication skills for social and environmental action. There is also the school’s Our Profile project, which sees students creating an online interactive and physical art installation that reflects relevant issues in the community, using the profiles of students, teachers, and parents.
Another innovative project, the Imaginarium program, harnesses the ingenuity of primary students, challenging them to prototype inventions addressing real-life needs of people experiencing isolation during COVID-19. The program also has facilitated a recasting of students in the role of teacher of their peers, allowing them to educate other students about the technology they have developed.
