Perth College Anglican School for Girls
Perth College’s Imaginarium is a place where minds can expand and soar – where innovation, curiosity and creativity are encouraged, and rigorous intellectual development occurs. The Imaginarium is a challenging and motivating environment which enhances the holistic development of gifted girls through after school and holiday courses as well as internal classes for Perth College students. Imaginarium courses that are run after school and during school holidays are open to gifted girls who attend any school in Western Australia from Kindergarten to Year 10. Gifted girls’ unique characteristics and asynchronous development in relation to their chronological same-age peers often results in the increased likelihood of social and emotional difficulties. The Imaginarium also runs a mentoring program, Girl Guardians, for gifted girls in Years 5 and 6 at Perth College with alumni (Old Girls) in the evenings during Terms 2 and 3. Now in its third year, longitudinal research conducted has identified positive development in each girls’ cognitive, social and emotional domains through their involvement in the program. The Imaginarium recently featured in two presentations at the World Council’s Gifted and Talented Children’s Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, highlighting the high-quality impact the program is having on gifted girls throughout West Australia.
