Mosman High School
Mosman High School’s focus is creativity through innovation. Students from Years 7-12 are developing skills in the application of design thinking to real world outcomes. Year 8 students work with scientists from The Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) to develop solutions to the problem of microplastics in our oceans. Year 9 students complete a school-designed elective using Higher Order Thinking (HOTS) where they turn ‘process to product’ using differentiated questions in the areas of STEM or Humanities. Year 10 students research, analyse and present their findings about our Future Cities to a Shark Tank. Students have responded to the driving question: “Do you have Ants in your Pantry?” by using the STEM disciplines to analyse farming practice and to identify nutritional needs. This involves learning experiences with field experts including an insect farmer, an algae biotechnician and a scientist from Taronga Zoo. Students have created prototypes that apply engineering and science to solve our food security problems now and into the future.
