In this edition of The Educator TV, we sat down with Adrian Camm, the principal of Westbourne Grammar School. Camm was named on The Educator’s Hot List, which recognizes leaders who have made significant contributions to Australia’s educator sector over the past year.
Camm shared his perspective on fearless leadership, stating that it's not merely an option, but necessary. He emphasized the need to trust intuition, make calculated decisions with limited information, and that leadership is a learning process where vulnerability is critical to growth.
Camm highlighted some of the key components of a successful leader, mentioning transparency, the ability to take criticism, and the importance of building a dynamic and supportive team. He emphasized the importance of having a thick skin and always putting the greater good of the school first.
While strategic planning, facilities, and digital innovation are all important aspects of Westbourne Grammar School, Camm noted that his greatest source of pride lies in his dynamic team. Camm’s team value exceptional communication and continuous improvement, helping make Westbourne Grammar School the best it can be. When asked about his greatest achievements over the past 12 months, Camm noted:
“I love seeing people succeed. I love seeing people learn, grow, and develop. And I love seeing our staff and our students achieve more than I ever thought were possible. If you put the right support mechanisms in place, and you encourage, you know, it's amazing what can happen.”
