A female teacher working at an elite grammar school in Sydney has confessed to having sexual relations with a student in her care.
The 33-year-old former teacher appeared at the Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to nine counts of sexual intercourse with a minor who was under her care and one count of aggravated indecent assault.
The exchanges, which allegedly occurred both in and outside of school, took place between January and March last year.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the pair became involved with one another after working on a school play.
The court heard that the woman had allegedly been warned on several occasions over a number of years about her inappropriate behaviour around students.
It’s alleged that the 17-year-old student was “scared into” the sexual relationship out of fear the teacher would self-harm, but asked her to cease contacting him in April.
However, the court heard that the teacher continued to do so until September. She was arrested the following month
The court heard the student asked the teacher to stop contacting him in April, but she reportedly continued to do so until September.
Magistrate Greg Grogin placed her on a two-year AVO, which prevents her from trying to contact the former student.
She remains on bail and will be sentenced at a later date.
