The past year was always going to be tough for Australian schools.
Off the back of a global pandemic, crippling teacher shortages and a worsening youth mental health crisis, to say Australian schools had their work cut out for them would be a gross understatement.
Yet amid all of this, many schools have managed to create positive and inspiring working environments for their staff and students – evidenced by low rates of turnover and high rates of tenure and employee engagement.
To find the schools with employee initiatives that stood out as the best, The Educator ran a national survey between October 4-29, inviting all Australian schools to self-nominate based on their initiatives and achievements across a number of key areas.
From a flood of submissions for the 2022 5-Star Awards for Employers of Choice, The Educator handpicked 18 schools, including that have gone above and beyond to support staff through an especially trying time.
Among the school’s named in this year’s awards were Ormiston College - where a unique framework is creating a strong foundation with emphasis on students’ literacy and numeracy skills - and St. Andrew’s Cathedral School, which has a rich professional learning community supported by high-quality evidence and coaching resources.
