New principal appointed at leading Sydney boys

Private boys’ school Shore has appointed a new principal to replace longtime headmaster Dr John Collier, who will retire in 2026 following a “carefully planned handover process”.

Dr Peter Miller, who taught at Shore from 1989-2001, is currently principal of co-educational school The Geelong College in Victoria. Prior to this, Dr Miller was principal of All Saints’ College in Bathurst and head of middle school at Barker College.

Announcing the appointment, the school’s executive team said Dr Miller’s three decades of experience heading up prestigious schools across Australia and the UK makes him “an ideal fit” to become the 10th headmaster in Shore’s 135-year history.

“On behalf of the School community I am excited to welcome Dr Peter Miller as our Headmaster Elect,” Rob Clarke, School Council Chair, said in a statement.

“His leadership and commitment to fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and challenging academic environment are essential as Shore continues to evolve and uphold its distinguished legacy.”

Clarke noted Dr Miller’s his commitment to upholding Christian values, his experience in the delivery of large-scale master planning projects and his proven understanding of the unique needs of male students.

“We believe that he is exceptionally well-placed to understand the unique requirements of teaching and learning for boys and to actively support Shore’s tradition of nurturing resilient, compassionate young men,” Clarke said.

Speaking on his appointment, Dr Miller said he was “absolutely thrilled” to be returning to Shore.

“[Shore] is a truly remarkable institution and community,” he said. “I look forward to working alongside an exceptional team of dedicated teaching and support staff, united by a shared commitment to nurturing and empowering our students to thrive.”
