Balaclava Primary School, located in Cairns, went into lockdown yesterday after the student threatened to attack the premises using a handgun and a knife, according to The Cairns Post.
The school activated their lockdown procedures following the phone call, which was received around 12.30pm on Monday. Staff also contacted families of students who normally walked to and from school to ensure they could get home safely.
However, following an extensive search of the school’s grounds, the incident was declared a hoax.
The boy was taken into custody at around 7pm on Monday and has been charged with improper use of an emergency call service with the intention of inducing a false belief.
He will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
