Far Out Friday: Girl’s mock letter from school goes viral

Seven-year-old Cara from Iowa knew the end of the school holidays was fast approaching, so she did what any innovative student would do and thought outside the box.

Penning a fake missive, she wrote: “The school compnay (sic) is taking a brake (sic) so the kids will get one more week of school off and will need your child to sign their name here.”

Scrawled in permanent marker at the bottom was her name and, to make it official, a pink stamp of a smiling Rapunzel.

Cara’s father, Terry Grimard, couldn’t resist sharing his daughter’s cheeky ploy online, posting the letter on community forum Reddit. The letter has since had more than 2.5 million views.

“It's amazing. When I posted it, I didn't think anything of it. When I looked last night, I said 'Wow, it's kind of blown up’.”

“I kept teasing her because I was off from work also. I was saying 'Guess what Monday is? I have to go back to work and you have to go back to school.' She jokes around like she doesn't like school, but she does, she enjoys it,” he told ABC News.

Grimard added he also has a second-grade daughter who is “really into” writing notes on his behalf.

“She'll pen a card to her teacher, saying I'm going to pick her up from school so she doesn't have to take the bus. Then she'll ask me to sign it. ‘I guess I'm picking you up today,’ I'll respond. It's cute, though—just as long as she doesn't learn how to forge my signature.”
