Day of truth for students as VCE results are released

Today, more than 49,000 Victorian high school students completed the final chapter of their school lives as they received their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) results.

This year, students graduated with a VCE completion rate of 97.7%. One group of 35 students scored a tertiary rank of 99.95%, the highest number to achieve this mark since 2012.

Victoria’s Deputy Premier and Education Minister, James Merlino, joined the inaugural group of Year 12 students at Elizabeth Blackburn School of Sciences in Parkville to congratulate them as they received their results online or via text this morning.

“Completing VCE is a significant achievement in anyone’s life and I congratulate more than 49,000 students across the state for reaching this milestone. You should be very proud of what you have achieved,” Merlino said.

“I sincerely thank the many teachers, families and friends who encouraged and supported these students throughout their studies this year.

“If you didn’t get the results you wanted, seek advice from your school and remember that life offers many pathways to success.”

Victoria’s Minister for Skills and Training, Steve Herbert, encouraged students to pursue a TAFE course, adding high quality vocational skills were the “best pathway to a highly paid job”.

“TAFE’s can give you a fabulous campus experience, and the opportunity to develop the skills you need for a job or for further study,” he said.
