Pius X High School, a co-educational Catholic high school located in Adamstown NSW, will be closed for the rest of the week after a male student tested positive to COVID-19.
The school’s 1,050 students and 140 staff have been asked to stay home while the campus is closed for deep cleaning and contact tracing.
The teenage boy last attended the school on Monday, when caught the number 26 bus. The students who caught the bus are being asked to self-isolate.
There are also concerns for the student’s soccer team, the Newcastle Jets under 15 representative squad, who have had their training cancelled for the remainder of the week.
In a statement overnight, the club said the infected student’s fellow teammates and the coaches of the team, are currently following Public Health protocols for a confirmed case of COVID-19.
“At this stage, ALL Academy training has been cancelled for the remainder of the week and this weekend's game will be reviewed pending advice from Public Health and Football NSW,” the statement read.
“The boy did not attend academy training at Hunter Sports High School while infectious”.
On Wednesday, Health authorities in NSW confirmed 12 new coronavirus infections, including one mystery case with no clear links to known outbreaks.
