AHISA appoints new National Chair

Australia’s peak body for independent school leaders has appointed a new National Chair, who will take over from Rev Chris Ivey, who stood down this year.

The appointment Dr Gareth Leechman as the new National Chair of The Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA) follows a meeting of the National Board, of which Dr Leechman has been a member since 2021.

Dr Leechman, who is Principal of Arndell Anglican College in Oakville in NSW, joined AHISA in 2007 – a move he says has benefitted him “both personally and professionally”.

“The collective support and wisdom of our members, combined with their willingness to share it, is unique and something which we must continue to hold onto,” he said in a statement today.

“Whilst AHISA seeks to be an active and strong voice for independent education within Australia and the region, it has as one of its main priorities the continued desire to support the development of our members; the educational leaders of their respective learning communities.”

Dr Leechman said he looks forward to serving AHISA’s members and working with its new set of Directors during his time as Chair.

“Effective and strong educational leadership undoubtedly leads to positive outcomes for those communities who receive it.”
