Zein Saleh, University of Wollongong
University of Wollongong
Associate Lecturer (Engineering)
During the summer of 2018, Saleh spent a significant amount of time studying the qualitative feedback from the students, provided formally and informally, on performance in the previous sessions. After seeking advice from his supervisors and peers to improve his practice, he received the prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning (OCTAL award) in 2019. Saleh was also the inaugural winner of the Outstanding Tutor Award and Tutor of Excellence awards from the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre, for his work with Indigenous students studying engineering and helping them achieve their academic goals. Saleh has also successfully co-supervised the thesis journey of three engineering honours students. “We maintained weekly communication and worked on an action plan that enabled them to explore their full potential and achieve the highest possible outcome from their research,” Saleh reflected. “The result was all three of them achieving a high-distinction mark on their thesis and writing a draft to a journal article that will be submitted for peer review”.
