As an early career researcher, Young is currently employed as a Research Fellow at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne and holds Adjunct Research Fellow positions at the Centre for Health Services Research at the University of Western Australia and the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) at Curtin University located in Perth, Australia. Young is currently involved in research examining the health outcomes of people released from prison in a mixed-methods, multijurisdictional Australian national study. Young’s primary research interest is in the area of psychiatric epidemiology. More specifically, this includes the epidemiological analysis of substance use disorders and other mental health disorders, investigating the comorbid relationships between substance use disorders, other mental health disorders, and justice health outcomes. Through evidenced-based research, Young’s aim is to foster mental illness and substance use harm reduction and prevention strategies, promote interdisciplinary healthcare capacity building, and advance public policy through mental health advocacy.
