Iris Lim, Bond University
Bond University
Assistant Professor
Following years of observation and ongoing reflection, Lim has adopted a teaching philosophy that believes every student is unique and progresses differently. She is willing to spend time outside her established contact hours to build relationships with students and understand their learning style. She then uses a multi-modal approach to adjust her teaching technique accordingly while encouraging active participation among learners. While effective in teaching students outside formal settings such as in-person lectures and tutorials, Lim is also capable of presenting complex topics and concepts clearly and concisely in a classroom environment. Using everyday scenarios, she gets to prompt students to understand the relevance of core subject concepts in their life. Recognising the value digital technology adds in teaching, Lim allows the use of smartphones in the classroom to sustain interactivity. She organises her lectures into 25-minute content blocks then engages with her students via the Poll Everywhere app. By blending contemporary teaching tools with traditional ones, Lim transforms classroom sessions from passive to active, making learning interesting, fun and engaging.
