Leading the curriculum redesign of over 60 units for Victoria University’s revolutionary “Block Model”, Zakaria and his team have improved the learning experience and educational success of students from low socio-economic, first-in-family and non-English backgrounds. Zakaria’s contribution includes developing 3D printed educational resources and learning activities for students studying physics, anatomy, environmental science, engineering and building construction, as well as designing 300 creative online interactive activities that prompt engagement and enable self-paced learning among students while minimising cognitive load. His passion for creating engaging learning experiences also resulted to the development of applications that allow an augmented reality and 360° virtual experience of Victoria University’s innovative, collaboration space, “The Hive”. Zakaria also conducts professional development seminars on effective pedagogical practices and cutting-edge teaching innovations. He spends his spare time running workshops for undergraduates and secondary school students on incorporating technology in education and technological applications in the workplace to inspire them to lead innovative future careers.
