Peter Leggat, a professor in public health and tropical medicine at James Cook University, has more than three decades of experience in medicine and higher education in Australia and internationally. He is also a registered Tertiary Education Quality and Standards (Australia) expert, co-director at WHO Collaborating Centre for Vector-borne and Neglected Tropical Diseases, and holds adjunct professorships at five universities in five countries. Leggat has been dedicated to broadening flexible learning opportunities and fostering strong links between universities and industry, to enhance participation in postgraduate education. He has also consulted with various organisations, including the Australian Defence Force, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, and the WHO. Leggat has been named as a 2020 Australia Day Ambassador for Queensland for the seventh consecutive year.
