A new director will head Singapore’s teacher-training institute, the National Institute of Education (NIE) from 1 July onwards.
Professor Christine Goh, who has been with NIE for the past 24 years, will replace outgoing director Professor Tan Oon Seng. Goh is currently dean of graduate studies and professional learning.
Goh aims to leverage NIE’s strengths to lead the future of teacher and professional education in Singapore and internationally.
She is recognised as an applied linguistics expert and has advised the Ministry of Education on aspects of English language education and research.
“Prof Christine Goh brings a fine mixture of professionalism, innovative ideas and academic integrity that makes her ideally qualified to lead the NIE on to further and bigger success in the future,” said Professor Ling San, provost and vice president (academic) at NTU.
Tan will remain as an education professor at NIE and will be the director of the new Centre for Research in Child Development later this year.
He has been credited with boosting NIE’s reputation and programs, having served as NIE director since July 2014, reported the Straits Times.
