Singapore is the best country in the world when it comes to providing pre-university education, according to the results of a comprehensive new study which was released just yesterday.
The Global Knowledge Index – conducted for the first time this year – found that Singapore scored 85.4 out of 100 in terms of pre-university education.
The impressive score is the highest of all 131 countries surveyed and places Singapore significantly ahead of its closest rivals Denmark (78.7), Iceland (77.9) and Iceland (76.9).
Asian neighbours were also unable to reach such heights with the Philippines at 66.3, Malaysia at 64.4, Japan at 62 and Indonesia at 49.6.
However, while Singapore outperformed every other nation in regards to pre-university education, there were other areas of education in which it was unable to excel.
When scored on its educational enabling environment, Singapore achieved just 63.7 out of 100, earning the nation a disappointing 49th place in the rankings.
In contrast, Malaysia scored 78.2, Japan scored 63.8, the Philippines scored 60.9 and Indonesia scored 54.4.
Further, when Singapore’s school environment was tested, the county scored 85.9 – or 50th place – in the global rankings. Malaysia scored 94.8, Japan scored 86.1, Indonesia scored 80.4 and the Philippines scored 75.8.
As well as pre-university education, the index also analysed technical vocational education and training, higher education, information and communications technology, research, development and innovation, and economy.
Overall, Singapore came in an impressive second place, scoring 69.5 out of 100. The nation was just beaten to the top spot by Switzerland (71.8) and was closely followed by Finland (68.5), Sweden (68.3), the Netherlands (68), the US (67.2), Luxembourg (66.2), the UK (65.6) and Demark (65.2).
