Seven people in India, including a school principal, a teacher and students, were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of gang raping and blackmailing a student over several months.
The 15-year-old victim had filed the complaint last week, two years after the ordeal, police said.
One of her classmates had attacked her in the private school and filmed the incident, using the footage to blackmail her. Other students assaulted her after the first incident.
In a shocking turn of events, after reporting the incident to the principal and two teachers, they allegedly assaulted her as well. She told police that the abuse continued for seven months.
The victim named a total of 18 people in the case, according to The Times of India. She has been brought to a hospital for a medical examination.
The district police chief said investigations are progressing and they are looking into evidence against each of the accused.
A sexual offence is committed against a child in India every 15 minutes, and reported crimes against minors have increased more than 500% in the last decade, an analysis by non-profit organisation Child Rights and You showed last month.
