Primary students protest against 'lazy', 'rude' teacher

Primary students protest against

One primary school in south Thailand saw its students protest against their allegedly “rude” and “lazy” teacher, demanding her resignation.

Last week, before school started, dozens of students held up signs and banners and circled Chantana Sutaphanit’s car when she arrived at the school compound.

The cards showed their anger at her alleged shortcomings as a teacher and her mistreatment of the young students.

The students’ signs read “Kru Chantana get out”, “I don’t want to study with Kru Chantana”, “I’m not a brat” and “Why do you have my kid massage you during school hours?” The word ‘Kru’ means teacher in the Thai language.

According to the pupils’ parents, Chantana has used profanities against her students, poked them with sharp pencils and was on the phone all day instead of teaching them. Some teachers also said that she did not work well with others, reported Khaosod English.

The demonstration ended at 9am when district police came to observe the scene. Chantana had called police while her car was blocked by the students.

A senior education official has promised to investigate the allegations. He said the teacher would remain suspended until the investigation was completed.
